Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.
— Marianne Williamson (quoted in Nelson Mandela’s 1994 Inaugural Speech)

Letters to My Abusers: What I Couldn't Say Then

I firmly believe you must feed yourself positive messages daily and as often as you can throughout the day to counteract the negativity around you and inside your own mind. As survivors of sexual and other kinds of abuse, our patterns of thought were formed out of that abuse and significantly diminish our positive energy.

The moment you wake up you are bombarded with negativity by either what you hear in your head or on the radio or T.V or even by the people around you.  Many of you experience flashbacks or are triggered emotionally by situations that arise.  This causes your internal world to spiral downward which then attracts more of the same.  Like attracting like (the Law of Attraction).  It is imperative that you try to keep yourself in a state of feeling good, as often as possible, so as to attract more of what you feel good about.  This can be love, money, creativity, work, peace, joy anything that you want to manifest in your life.  Unfortunately feeling good, when you are dealing with childhood wounds is the battle.

Some of what has worked for me is to immerse myself in positive messages and experiences daily. You must create this for yourself and eventually you will begin to attract them without even trying:

  •  Listen to inspirational cds by motivational speakers
  •  Interact with positive people; find ways to feel good throughout the day (which usually means doing something kind for someone else)
  •  Interact with family, have fun, play games, shoot hoops, even something simple like taking a ride to the store with your son or daughter with the express purpose of spending a little time, making them laugh will help keep you to stay in a positive frame of mind.  My two year old granddaughter and my five dogs always get me in a good mood.  I can’t help but smile and laugh when I am around them
  •  Read something that makes you laugh, inspires you, gets you excited and motivated, makes you feel good about you.
  •  Create something or work on something you feel good about and that makes you feel good (art, writing, dance, project)

I have found the following web sites to be a great help in my journey to cope, thrive and heal. They are for anyone who wants to improve their lives mentally, spiritually and emotionally.  I firmly believe you must feed yourself positive messages daily and as often as you can throughout the day to counteract the negativity around you and inside your own mind.
